Women Waist can spread due to excessive Sugary Drinks

The researchers did not specify in detail how sweet drinks affect heart disease risk factors such as high triglyceride levels in individuals who do not have problems with weight, Shay said, but he promised to conduct advanced research. The research was presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2011.

Women consuming two glasses or more drinks per day were almost four times more likely to develop high triglycerides and are more likely to increase the size of the waist. The same association is not seen in men.

"Women who drank more than two glasses of sweetened drinks a day have a waist size that tends to increase, but that does not necessarily lead to weight gain," said Christina Shay PhD, principal investigator of the study and assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City.

"They also have the potential to develop high triglycerides. Women with normal blood glucose levels even higher risk of diabetes over time," she said as quoted by WebMD, Wednesday (14/11).

Women are more likely to develop cardiovascular disease risk factors from drinking sugary drinks because they require fewer calories when compared with men.

In this study, researchers compared middle-aged and elderly women who drank two glasses or more sugar-sweetened beverages each day, such as carbonated sodas or bottled drinks that were given extra sugar.

Women today should be more careful and selective in choosing a beverage. Because a new study found that drinking more than two glasses of sweetened drinks a day can widen women waist and increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
